Attendee Default Login & Passwords

The Attendee Default Password allows you to assign a single, universal password for all attendees to access your event dashboard. Instead of requiring attendees to create and remember their own unique passwords, they can simply navigate to your generic event login URL (e.g., your-event.obv.io) and log in using the email address they registered with alongside the default password you have provided.

Why Use a Default Password?
  • Customer Support Backup: It is highly recommended to set a default password even if you primarily use "magic links" (unique, click-to-enter URLs). It serves as a great customer support "backdoor" tool. If an attendee cannot find their magic link email, your support team can simply direct them to the generic login page and tell them to use their email address and the default password.
  • Reduced Friction: For free or low-cost events, setting a universal password removes the barrier of having attendees invent and remember a new password.
How to Set the Default Password
  1. Navigate to your Event Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the Attendee default password field.
  3. Enter your desired universal password. Note: The password must be at least 8 characters long.

Best Practices for Default Logins
  • Disable the Password Creation Step: If you are using a default password or magic links, you should disable the "Password" step in the Check-in menu. Turning this off ensures attendees aren't forced to create a personalized password the first time they log in, significantly reducing onboarding friction.
  • Add Instructions to the Login Page: If attendees land on your generic login page, they won't automatically know the default password. Go to Design -> Login Page and add helper text directly to the page. A best practice is to write something like: "Please log in using the email address you registered with and the password [Insert Default Password]".
  • Disable the "Forgot Password" Feature: Once you disable the initial password creation step, the "Forgot my password" and password reset functions will automatically be disabled, as they are no longer relevant and would otherwise confuse attendees.
Alternative: Email-Only Login If you want to make the login process even easier and bypass passwords entirely, Obvio offers an Allow email only login feature.
  • How it works: Found at the bottom of the Event Settings page, enabling this toggle changes the login page to only ask for an email address. As long as the email address belongs to a registered attendee, the system will log them directly into the dashboard.
  • Security Note: While highly convenient, this reduces the security level of your event. Anyone who knows a registered attendee's email address could theoretically log into their dashboard, though only one device is permitted to enter the actual Zoom room at a time
